The technique of isobutene polymerization to form dodecene refers to the polymerization of isobutene under the action of catalyst and the main product is dodecene.
Isobutene is an important chemical raw material, it was obtained mainly from the C4 mixed fraction of by products of ethylene production , of by products of catalytic cracking unit in refinery and from dehydrogenation after n-butane isomerization process, more than 90% isobutylene is used to produce methyl tert-butyl ether in China, it is the most important application market of isobutene. However, due to the promotion and implementation of domestic vehicle ethanol gasoline policy, methyl tert-butyl ether will no longer be used as a gasoline additive, it will cause the production unit of methyl tertiary butyl ether to stop production, a large amount of isobutylene resources will be released, resulting in the surplus of isobutylene resources. Isobutylene can be used in addition to the production of methyl tert-butyl ether, tert-butanol, alkylation oil ,butyl rubber, polyisobutene and methyl methacrylate can also be produced. Among them isobutene dimers can be hydrogenated to produce isooctane, it is the ideal addition to gasoline, it can also be used to produce organic synthesis intermediates such as octylphenol and isononanol, it is a very important chemical raw material; isobutene trimer can be used to produce branched dodecyl benzene ,dodecyl phenol of fine chemical intermediates, and can also be hydrogenated to produce isododecalkanes, it is a kind of high quality iso-alkane solvent oil, It has the advantages of toxicological safety, easy biodegradation , quick evaporation, and has good intermiscibility , it has a broad market prospect; isohexadecane can be produced by hydrogenation of the isobutene tetramer, it is a multi - branched paraffin oil with excellent properties, it can be used in personal care products with excellent physicochemical and toxicological safety.
At present, some domestic enterprises use macroporous sulfonic acid cation exchange resin as the catalyst for isobutene dimerization,good results were obtained, diisobutene is the main product, with a small amount of by-products of triisobutene . However, there are few reports about the main production of triisobutylene by isobutylene polymerization in China, the global production of isododecane and isohexadecane through hydrogenation of isobutene polymerization is mainly concentrated in the three enterprises of Ineos in Germany, Hitachi, Marushan in Japan.

The catalyst had good performance and the reaction conditions were relaxed; the isobutylene conversion rate was good, almost complete conversion, and the yield of dodecolefin was high.
